The Decommissioning Process

Every solar development project eventually comes to an end point, which requires the dismantling, or decommissioning, of the entire system. With landowners, as mentioned in that section, the decommissioning phase and its details are all part of the initial package of personal land usage. Other solar developments may require a mutually agreed upon Decommissioning Plan, with a list of tasks to be performed before finally pulling out. These tasks may include:

  • the anticipated life of the project

  • negotiations for continuing on with the existing solar program

  • the anticipated cost of decommissioning and a plan for covering it

  • a physical plan for decommissioning

The physical plan for decommissioning, for all users of our services, would involve these and perhaps additional components:

  • remove all rack wiring, cables, panels and racks

  • dismantle and load racks

  • remove electrical equipment

  • take down and remove concrete pads and ballasts

  • remove power poles and all fencing

  • re-grade and re-seed all areas affected

Important to remember is that Galaxy 2 Consulting will always leave the solar development area in the condition is was begun in, and in the case of land, oftentimes in even better shape. Every contract will specify its own individual aspects of decommissioning that prove to be necessary to its unique design.
